GST invoice or bill of supply: which one do I get?

You choose once, in Setup. Billing screens never ask about tax again.

Open Setup and find Tax

In the menu tap Setup and scroll to the Tax section, GST registration.

Setup Tax section set to Registered, I charge GST, with state and GSTIN

Pick the line that describes you

Registered, I charge GST: your bills are tax invoices with the CGST, SGST or IGST breakup. Composition scheme or Not registered: your bills are bills of supply with no tax charged on them.

Tax invoice: title, CGST and SGST rows and a taxable value Bill of supply: same items, no tax rows, the title says bill of supply

Enter your state and GSTIN

Choose your State. If you are registered, enter your GSTIN. The state decides whether a sale is CGST plus SGST or IGST.

Say if your prices already include GST

Tick My prices already include GST if the rates you enter are the final price. The bill then works the tax out of that price.

Tap Save settings

From the next bill on, the title and tax rows follow your choice.

Good to know

  • A bill already issued keeps the title it was issued with, even if you change Setup later.
  • Not sure which one fits your business? Ask your CA. This page explains the app, not tax advice.

FAQ

Common questions

What is a bill of supply?
In Invoice Saathi, a bill of supply is the bill with no tax charged on it. It is what prints when Setup says Composition scheme or Not registered, and it has no tax rows.
Bill of supply vs tax invoice: what changes?
A tax invoice shows the taxable value and the CGST and SGST (or IGST) charged. A bill of supply shows the items and the total with no tax charged. In Invoice Saathi the one setting in Setup decides which one prints.
Does a composition dealer charge GST on the bill?
Not on the bill. Pick Composition scheme in Setup and your bills print as bills of supply with no tax rows. Confirm your own case with your CA.
Can an unregistered shop issue a GST invoice?
In Invoice Saathi, choosing Not registered prints a bill of supply with no tax charged. If you register for GST later, switch Setup to Registered and your next bills print as tax invoices.
Does the title change on old bills?
No. A bill already issued keeps the title it was issued with, even if you change Setup later.
